About Karen Ness
I have so many inspirations! My clients inspire me with their dedication, hard work, and love of Pilates. They definitely keep me going. My family, especially my kids Chloe and Max, always inspire me to grow.
My greatest mentor has been Shari Berkowitz, whom I studied with for nearly a decade and continue to learn from. Bob Liekens, who I met and worked with closely in the process of becoming a Power PIlates teacher trainer, is also a continued source of inspiration. Others I admire: Benjamin Degenhardt, Brooke Siler, Karen Ellis, and Katherine Slay! I also love watching Peter Fiasca do the super advanced reformer.
I teach Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis, (I am a preparatory instructor trainer (pre-trainer) for Gyrotonic and soon to be for Gyrokinesis so these methods and philosophies definitely run deep in my body and mind. I also practice yoga when I have time. I run, cycle, surf, and dance. Movement is my life!
My favorite Pilates books are definitely Return to Life and The Pilates Body by Brooke Siler, and I am currently reading Voices from Classical Pilates. I love design, art and fashion. I would love to learn to design hats. My husband and I dance Tango together. I love researching anatomy and biomechanics; it makes my “xray vision” of the body better when I teach. I love all the classical apparatus; specifically Gratz, and I especially love balance controls and star on the reformer, mountain climber and handstand pike on the wundachair, and traditional ending on the cadillac!
Karen Ness trained with Power Pilates. She has been teaching for 13 years and currently owns Axis Pilates in Long Beach, CA. You can find Karen at Axislbc.com
